Free Tutoring for Students in Foster Care

Transitional Youth Services, a program of the Santa Barbara County Education Office, provides educational support to foster children and youth, in grades K-12. In order to help foster youth learn and achieve, we provide tutoring and education-related assistance for students, caregivers, schools, and social service providers. The TYS tutoring coordinator, Rosa Valle-Rico, will work to accommodate students’ schedules depending on their needs and on tutor caseloads.Free tutoring is available to any 1st through 12th grade student in foster care who is performing below grade level.- Tutoring is provided by one tutor working directly with each student.
– Tutoring sessions are scheduled for 2 times per week for one hour each session.
– Start tutoring early in the school year for maximum improvement and the best chance of securing a spot. Refer now!

Santa Maria Tutoring:

Students in 1st through 8th grade receive individual tutoring at home or at school. High school students receive tutoring after school in the library at either Righetti or Santa Maria High School. Students attending other area high schools may attend these tutoring sites.

Lompoc Tutoring:

Students in 1st through 8th grade receive individual tutoring at home or at school. Students in high school are tutored after school at the Public Library, schools, or another agreed upon location.

Santa Barbara Tutoring:

Students can receive tutoring in their homes or in school libraries.
